SUSTAINABLY SOURCING SANFOOT® REAL WOOD VENEER

We are at a pivotal moment in the race against Climate Change. COP26 has officially begun in Glasgow with world leaders gathering to discuss urgent action that needs to be made to tackle climate change.

Now is the time where greater emphasis has been put on architects and designers to make more sustainable choices through material selection with many taking a closer look at where building materials are being sourced.

As the only supplier of SanFoot® Real Wood Veneer in Europe we are keen to share with you our commitment to sustainable sourcing of the material from reducing wood waste, increasing yields, and protecting the environment.

Maximising Yield

Our approach encompasses the Japanese Mottainai culture, an idea of respecting resources and not wasting them, along with an inherent recognition of their value.

To create the product SanFoot® Real Wood Veneer, we use our technology of slicing thin veneer which enables us to maximise yields by approximately 300%. From an environmental perspective this slicing technology means that the same volume of real wood veneer that once came from three trees now only requires one, making it a more sustainable wood solution in comparison to traditional timber.

Careful Tree Selection

Part of responsible forestry management comes in the form of knowing which trees to harvest and when. Unlike many other crops, trees grow slowly. However, thanks to responsible forest management, we have seen a more than 100 percent increase in hardwood tree populations.

In established forests, we harvest carefully chosen individual aged trees to create a more spacious, healthier environment for younger, robust trees that are still growing.

Old-growth forests are not our sole source of trees. We also use plantation-grown trees that have been planted specifically for producing timber, veneer, and other wood products. These plantation-grown trees often come from plentiful species. However, plantations are also home to species that may be endangered in their native lands. Thanks to tree plantations, we can grow a reliable, sustainable, and plentiful supply of woods that might otherwise be difficult or impossible to obtain.

Reconstituted Veneers

Not all species are readily available, which is why we also grow enhanced species. We can use species that are naturally plentiful and reconstruct, alter, and dye them to mimic rare, exotic, and otherwise hard-to-find species to create reconstituted veneers. We can use the same methods to create breath taking figures, stunning patterns, and brilliant colours that are not found in nature. With enhanced species, we can provide you with environmentally friendly wood veneer sheets from reliably available species featuring remarkable consistency.

Inspired Surfaces sustainable journey

As part of See Group we are passionate about taking positive steps to become Net Zero by 2030 and playing our part to address the climate crisis.

One of the positive steps that we are taking on our journey to Net Zero is by setting science-based targets through The Science Based Targets initiative to reduce our carbon emissions. Our target that has been set and approved by SBTi is in line with one of COP26’s goals of keeping global temperature rise to 1.5°C.

We are proud to be a part of a community of recognisable companies who are leading the way by setting science-based targets to reduce our carbon emissions.

All our actions for improvement help us make positive steps as part of our sustainability journey.

You can view our group’s target on the SBTi website.

Changes like these can make a difference.
